Greg Unangst, a native of Rome, New York began playing piano at the age of 11.  After becoming involved with music through out high school, he decided that the piano would become his life long passion and career.  Greg attended college in 1995 at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam were he received his Bachelor of Music in Music History and Theory with a concentration in Piano Performance, studying under renowned Russian pianist Eugenia Tsarov. In 1999 Greg was accepted at Florida State University where he continued study in Collaborative Piano under the guidance of Dr. Carolyn Bridger.  In 2001 Greg accepted a position on Long Island teaching piano at a small private school called Music Simply Music.  Two years later Greg moved back to Rome where he accepted a position as piano teacher for the YMCA’s  Center for the Creative Arts.

While in Rome Greg worked extensively as an accompanist, solo performer and music director.  He played for performances at Rome Community Theater, Capitol Theatre and The Utica Players as well as accompanied many Area All State and All County Choruses.   He often put on his own recitals involving guest from the area and New York City.  Greg played for many venues including bridal parties, weddings, funerals, theater events, local nursing homes, and holiday events, to name a few.

In 2006 Greg continued his journey in education and went back to the Crane School of Music to finish his masters degree in Piano Performance.  Greg’s experience at school allowed him again to perform widely as a soloist and accompanist and gave him the tools to improve his teaching in which he is enthusiastic to share with the community of Rome and throughout Central New York.  Greg returned to the YCCA in January of 2008 and is currently accepting students. He is planning to continue recitals presenting his students, offer workshops open to all pianist in Central New York as well as playing his own solo performances, offering his skill and talent to our community.
